PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE OF
PROPOSED REAL PROPERTY TAX INCREASE
The Town of Broadway, VA proposes to increase property tax levies.
- Assessment Increase: Total assessed value of real property, excluding additional assessments due to new construction or improvements to property, exceeds last year’s total assessed value of real property by 10.71 percent.
- Lowered Rate Necessary to Offset Increased Assessment: The tax rate which would levy the same amount of real estate tax as last year, when multiplied by the new total assessed value of real estate with the exclusions mentioned above, would be $ 0.09 per $100 of assessed value. This rate will be known as the “lowered tax rate.”
- Effective Rate Increase: The (name of the county, city or town) proposes to adopt a tax rate of $ 0.10 per $100 of assessed value. The difference between the lowered tax rate and the proposed rate would be $ .01 per $100, or 11.11 percent. This difference will be known as the “effective tax rate increase.”
Individual property taxes may, however, increase at a percentage greater than or less than the above percentage.
- Proposed Total Budget Increase: Based on the proposed real property tax rate and changes in other revenues, the total budget of the Town of Broadway will exceed last year’s by 24.44 percent.
A public hearing on the increase will be held on June 11, 2026, at 6:00 P.M. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall located at 116 Broadway Avenue, Broadway VA 22815.
A copy of the public hearing documents are on file at the Town of Broadway Town Hall, 116 Broadway Avenue, Broadway, VA 22815, and is available for reviewing Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with a lunch closure daily from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m., and at broadwayva.gov. Any person requiring special accommodations in attending or participating in the public hearing should contact the Broadway Town office at (540) 896-5152 at least five days prior to the public hearing.

TOWN OF BROADWAY
PROPOSED BUDGET AND TAX AND FEE INCREASES
The Town of Broadway will conduct a public hearing on the proposed annual budget for Fiscal Year 2026-2027, and the proposed increases in rates and fees as set forth below, on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Town Hall located at 116 Broadway Avenue, Broadway, VA 22815. Members of the public are invited to attend and present comments on the proposed budget, tax rates, and fees.

The Real Estate Tax Rate is proposed to remain at $0.10 per $100. The Personal Property Tax Rate is proposed to increase from $0.61 per $100 from the 2025-2026 rate to $0.68 per $100 for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
The Town is proposing the following increase and changes in fees, effective July 1, 2026.
Garbage Collection will be increased from $38.45 to $41.00 per cycle.

Discontinuation of Water Fluoridation
Notice Date: 04/21/26
After careful consideration, the Broadway Town Council unanimously voted on March 17, 2026 to discontinue the addition of fluoride to the Town’s public drinking water supply. The Town will stop adding fluoride effective August 1, 2026.

NOTICE OF AUDIT DELAY
Notice Date: 03/30/26
The Town of Broadway’s submission of the 2024 and 2025 audits has been delayed due to staffing shortages, turnover in the Town Manager position, and an issue with the Town’s financial software that required the reversal, review, and re-entry of numerous journal entries. Town staff are working closely with the auditors to complete the 2024 audit by the end of April 2026. Once that audit is finalized, work will begin immediately on the 2025 audit, which is projected to be completed by the end of August 2026.
SCAM ALERT: Phishing Emails Targeting City application fees
The Town of Broadway is alerting residents and local businesses of phishing attempts involving fraudulent requests for fee payments. These scams may appear to come from the Town but are not legitimate.
The Town of Broadway will never request payment through wire transfers and only collects fees either in person or through approved Town platforms. Official Town of Broadway email addresses will always end in @broadwayva.gov. Any message sent from a different domain should be considered suspicious. If you receive an email requesting payment for an application fee:
– Do not reply
– Do not click any links
– Do not open attachments
– Immediately contact the Town and forward the email to us for review
Residents are encouraged to stay vigilant and avoid falling victim to scams. Always verify the legitimacy of any communication by calling the Town office. Contact information for the Town office is available on the Town’s website. Do not use the contact information provided in any electronic communication requesting payment. If in doubt, you may also visit the Town office during business hours to ensure the legitimacy of the billing.
