SALARY: DOQ/DOE (+) benefits. The Town of Broadway, Virginia is seeking a community-oriented Chief of Police. Broadway is a close-knit community of approximately 4,500 people in northern Rockingham County. The town contains three (3) schools and two (2) community parks, one with a public recreational swimming pool. The town also participates in a mutual aid agreement with our neighboring community, the Town of Timberville.
The Police Chief will oversee police administration, patrol, investigations, communications, and a training program for the Broadway Police Department. The ideal candidate will be innovative, provide quality leadership, demonstrate thorough knowledge of modern community-oriented law enforcement techniques and concepts, manage the department’s budget in an open and judicious manner, translate community attitudes regarding law enforcement issues into departmental action, create and/or maintain an environment of positive moral and professionalism within the department, and will enforce town ordinances. Applicants should have a distinguished career with extensive experience in law enforcement. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree or higher in criminal justice, criminology, public administration, or a closely related field of study, along with a minimum of 10 years of progressive law enforcement experience and at least five years of cross-functional experience in a supervisory role. An equivalent combination of education, certifications, and years of experience will be considered. After-hours response (within 30 minutes) to emergencies is required for this position.
