The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality has issued a DROUGHT WARNING ADVISORY for our area. The town will be working to conserve water by minimizing nonessential water use and pursuing leak detection and repair. We also ask at this time that our citizens and businesses take the following voluntary steps:
- Avoid watering shrubbery, trees, lawns, plants, etc. from the municipal water supply. New plantings less than 6 months old can be watered between 9PM and 10AM with soaker hoses or drip irrigation, no sprinklers.
- Limit washing vehicles of all types to once per week or less, and before 9AM or after 4PM.
- Do not wash off private streets, driveways, or other paved areas.
- Do not fill swimming or wading pools, except that filled pools may be “topped off”.
Other voluntary water conservation suggestions:
- Operate only fully loaded dishwashers and clothes washing machines.
- Take short showers instead of baths.
- Turn off the tap while brushing teeth.
- Do not leave tap running while washing dishes.
- Reduce all non-essential water usage.
Repair or replace all water fixtures with reduced flow fixtures.
