More about our LOVE Letters:
In 2018, the Town of Broadway and the Broadway Hometown Partnership (BHP) unveiled the LOVE Letters at Heritage Park. This art installation is part of a larger effort championed by the Virginia Tourism Corporation’s LOVEworks program.
When creating the design, BHP Board of Directors were inspired by materials and images that reflect the history and character of Broadway and its residents:
L – Steel angle was used to create a structure similar to the Thatcher Bridge, a prominent symbol of Linville Creek that runs parallel to Heritage Park.
O – A replica of a mill stone was created to symbolize the prevalence of the flour mills in the area in the 18th and 19th centuries when the area was known as Custer’s Mill.
V – Railroad ties were used to symbolize the transition of Custer’s Mill to the Town of Broadway as the railroad brought industry to the area.
E – Broadway green shines bright on the “E” which stands for Enterprise (support of existing local businesses and future entrepreneurs in our community; Education (support of a strong educational system for our children); and Embracing (embracing changes in the community).
The creation of these LOVE Letters was made possible by the help of local businesses and community partners including Lantz Construction, Agri of Virginia, Broadway Metal Works, Superior Concrete (now Chaney Enterprises), A&D Applicators, Alger’s Excavation, Martins Native Lumber and Broadway Lions Club and Eddie Long.
